Joan of Arc — Jean-Baptiste Germain, gilt bronze, late 19th century —

Height: 29.5 cm

A heroic and spiritual figure above all others, Joan of Arc is depicted here in a posture of calm resolve, holding the fleur-de-lis banner, her sword at rest, her gaze fixed beyond the battle.

This finely chiseled, gilded bronze sculpture is the work of sculptor Jean-Baptiste Germain, an artist active at the end of the 19th century, known for his historical and patriotic figures exhibited at the Salon. The model reflects the official iconography of Joan of Arc as it became established after her national rehabilitation, blending fervor, dignity, and restrained heroism.

The casting quality is remarkable: — fineness of the facial features — precision of the armor and drapery — beautiful old golden patina, nuanced and deep — architectural base bearing the inscription JB Germain, medalist at the salon Signature of the artist Work 29.5 cm high, with harmonious proportions, intended for a cultivated interior, a collector's cabinet or a collection of sacred and historical art of the 19th century.

In very good overall condition, with wear and patina consistent with its age and the nature of bronze. A sculpture with a strong presence, both historical and spiritual, embodying the ideal of faith put into action.
