Work from the late 19th – early 20th century – Patinated spelter

This reliquary bust depicts Saint Vincent de Paul, a major figure in Christian charity and founder of the Daughters of Charity. The work adopts a simple and contemplative iconography: a slightly inclined head, an inward gaze, features marked by age and gentleness, accurately conveying the humility and spiritual gravity of the saint.

The modeling is precise, particularly in the treatment of the face, the short beard, and the collar characteristic of the congregation. The brown patina, with its warm and slightly golden hues, gives the whole a beautiful depth and an authentic presence, typical of devotional works from the late 19th century.

The bust rests on an architecturally designed pedestal incorporating, on the front, a glazed reliquary medallion framed by molded decoration. The whole is mounted on a black marble base, lending stability and elegance to the sculpture. The original lower fixing is visible, attesting to an earlier installation.
