Details
Majestic Christ in sculpted and polychrome stucco, on a blackened wooden cross.
This large devotional crucifix, striking in its presence and typical of 19th-century French workshops, features a finely modeled stucco Christ with an expressive face and elongated body, in keeping with the Neo-Baroque style of the second half of the century. The original polychromy, in shades of ochre and patinated ivory, bears the marks of long and sincere use, adding to the charm of these devotional pieces passed down through generations.
The cross, made of black-stained wood , offers a striking contrast to the light-colored body of Christ. At the top, the inscription "INRI," also old, remains, made of molded cardboard or fine plaster, typical of these 19th-century domestic crucifixes.
An authentic piece, beautiful in its simplicity and solemnity, perfect for a private chapel, an oratory, a classic interior or a collection of ancient religious art.
